Mater patient Gerhard Infante has returned to the Philippines this week after successful neurosurgery and rehabilitation to minimise the symptoms of a rare condition known as Lubag.

Mater Centre for Neurosciences and associated teams donated their time and skills to extend and improve Gerhard’s life.

Hope for baby Sam Hope for baby Sam

Mater Children's Private Brisbanel urological surgeon Dr David Winkle has changed the future for a Ugandan toddler affectionately known as Baby Sam. 

Sam was abandoned at a Ugandan hospital just after birth and suffers from the rare developmental abnormality bladder exstrophy which resulted in his bladder developing on the outside of his body.

Nonie's Story Nonie's Story

Whenever patients or staff talk about “Nonie who used to be in Mater Children’s Private but is now in Mater Mother’s birth suites”, there is usually a delighted “we love Nonie!” response. Nonie began working at Mater in Food Services in 2000, before working exclusively for Mater Children’s Private Food Service from 2002 until 2015, after which she was redeployed to Mater Mothers’ Birth Suites as an Assistant in Nursing (AIN).
