Susan Rix AM appointed to Mater Board

Mater has welcomed Ms Susan Rix AM to the Mater Misericordiae Limited (MML) Board.

A Chartered Accountant with more than 35 years’ experience—specialising in corporate governance, family councils, succession planning, taxation structures and restructuring—Susan is currently a Tax and Advisory Partner with BDO, one of the world’s leading accounting and advisory organisations.

After joining BDO in 1986 as an accountant, Susan was appointed Partner in 1992. Her extensive experience—which extends across the professional practice, retail, financial services and health sectors—includes taxation, general business and management services, provision of budgets, cash flow projections and providing advice to improve business efficiency and profits.

Susan holds positions on numerous Boards and Committees, including within the Brisbane Catholic Archdiocese as Council Member, Brisbane Catholic Education and Board Member, Catholic Foundation. Susan is also a Non-Executive Director at AEIOU Foundation, and for almost 22 years was a Director at Cerebral Palsy League, receiving life membership in 2003.

It is for her outstanding achievement, service and support to many not-for-profit organisations in Queensland that Susan was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia Medal in June 2014.

Susan has also served as Director, Queensland Rural Adjustment Authority, Queensland Rail Limited, Queensland University of Technology Enterprise Holdings Pty Ltd, and has been involved in large infrastructure projects including the Port of Brisbane Future Port Expansion Seawall Project and the North-South Bypass Tunnel Project.

Susan holds a Bachelor of Financial Administration from University of New England and is a Graduate of the Institute of Company Directors.

Susan joins the MML Board at an important time for the organisation, as it deepens the integration of its health, education and research services to ensure the continued fulfilment of its Mission to provide compassionate care to those who need it most.

“I am looking forward to the challenge of joining the Mater Board. The organisation is so well known and an iconic institution in Brisbane and I am proud to be on their Board and look forward to making a contribution,” Susan said.

The MML Board comprises 10 Directors—each of whom holds extensive experience in guiding organisations through critical phases of change—to provide leadership, knowledge and expertise to guide the broader Mater Group strategy to ensure the provision of exceptional care and service to all whom we are privileged to serve.
