Children’s cardiac service turns one

Wednesday 20 May 2009 marked an important milestone for the Queensland Paediatric Cardiac Service (QPCS) as it celebrated a year of operation at Mater Health Services after transitioning from The Prince Charles Hospital.

The QPCS teams celebrated with a morning tea attended by more than 60 people, including patients and their families.

According to the Director of Paediatric Cardiology, Dr Robert Justo the staff have worked hard throughout the year to establish and develop the service at its new location.

“The transition has gone very smoothly and we are all pleased with the service’s progress,” Dr Justo said.

“To date the paediatric cardiac surgical team have performed 360 surgeries with no wound infections, and currently there is no waiting list for surgeries, it is certainly a very satisfying outcome for everyone involved.”

“It was important to acknowledge this day and pay tribute to the entire team as these excellent results are a reflection of their dedication and commitment to making the transition work.”

“We look forward to further evolving the service in the coming year,” he said.

The transition of the QPCS to Mater Children’s Hospital was an important milestone towards the integration of children’s health care services in preparation for the opening of the Queensland Children’s Hospital from 2011.
