QDEC accredited as Tertiary Care Diabetes Service

Queensland Diabetes & Endocrine Centre (QDEC) has been accredited as a National Association of Diabetes Centre Tertiary Care Diabetes Service.

The diabetes specific accreditation is aimed at the improvement of quality and safety and is focussed on a combination of governance, educational and clinical criteria.

Acting Director of the service, Dr Janelle Nisbet, said QDEC successfully demonstrated commitment to diabetes care and quality improvements.

“The Accreditation Committee noted that they were impressed with our services and programs focussed on young people and in particular the Young Adult Transitional Services. They also referenced our leading work in OzDAFNE.”

Medical Director of Medical/Chronic Disease Services Dr Trisha O’Moore Sullivan congratulated the team, noting the arduous process and high standard achieved.

“Over the next couple of years, our focus will be on obtaining accreditation as a Centre of Excellence – this is the top tier with only a few centres nationally.”
