Maternal Fetal Medicine Research Program

The Maternal Fetal Medicine Research Program consists of 27 projects and covers; multiple pregnancy, non-invasive prenatal diagnosis, fetal therapy, congenital abnormalities and fetal cardiac. Glenn Gardener is the acting director of the Maternal Fetal Medicine Unit, and research co-ordinator for the unit.

Each year thousands of expectant mothers and their unborn babies rely on the Mater Mothers’ Centre for Maternal Fetal Medicine for detailed assessment and/or lifesaving treatment.

At the time of its establishment in 1995, the Centre of Maternal Fetal Medicine was the first of its kind in Queensland. Today, it is one of the leading centres in Australia dedicated to performing cutting edge treatment and research to improve outcomes for mothers and their unborn babies.
Over 1000 women from all over Queensland and northern New South Wales are referred to the Centre each year with pregnancy complications for specialist advice and treatment.

In addition to managing high-risk pregnancies and life-threatening complications, the Centre undertakes research to improve pregnancy outcomes and develop services to provide early and accurate detection and management of pregnancy complications.
