Opening statement

Start with a clear, direct and specific statement of why the nominee deserves recognition. Include enough information for the judging panel to become familiar with the nominee’s specific challenges faced, actions taken, and results or objectives achieved.

Supporting statements

Support the opening statement with specific examples that address the respective category criteria and elaborate on why the nominee’s accomplishments or project is worthy of the award.

These examples should include:

• outcomes and results
• challenges resolved
• demonstration of why a particular project is leading practice
• does the project introduce an original concept or refine an existing technique or procedure
• importance to the profession and portability of ideas and ease with which they can be accepted
• activities above and beyond the nominee’s job description for non-project categories. Include qualities that make this person outstanding and that are clearly relevant to the award criteria (for example contribution, team building, collaboration, initiative and leadership).

Nominations should be checked carefully to verify that all information submitted is accurate.
The number of supporting examples is not as important as ensuring that the nominee’s contributions or project statements match the award criteria.

Closing statement

Include a closing statement that reinforces the notable attributes of your award submission.

Other tips

Carefully read the selection criteria and ensure the criteria is addressed in the nomination by using clear examples – evidence will help back up your claims.

1. Take time to do the research to back up your submission.
2. Avoid jargon.
3. Refer to examples of qualified and quantified results and outcomes, where possible.
4. Stick to the word limits and carefully check before you submit.

All Mater People, including volunteers, Visiting Medical Officers (VMOs) and contract employees can submit a nomination. 

The below Mater People are eligible to be  nominated:  

• all permanent employees of Mater Misericordia Ltd (MML) in all ministries and shared services excluding the Mater Group state-wide Executive team who form the judging panel
• employees of Mercy Partners and subsidiary organisations (i.e. Holy Cross Services) are not eligible
• Mater volunteers
• Mater accredited VMOs who have served at Mater for a minimum of 12 months
• contract employees who have served at Mater for a minimum of 12 months
• members of the Mater Executive cannot be nominated as they form the review panel.

Self-nomination is not permitted.
Members of the Mater Executive cannot submit a nomination as they form the review panel.

Winners in all categories will receive a customised Mater People Award trophy and recognition at the Mater People Awards celebration and via Mater communication channels.

Nominations will be reviewed under a two-phased process:

• Phase 1 – peer review and short-listing against selection criteria by the Shortlisting Sub-committee.
• Phase 2 – winner selection from short-listed finalists in each category by the Mater Executive.
