Biography
Dr Joel Lewin is a General Surgeon with subspecialty training in Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery (HPB) practising at both Mater Private and Mater Public Hospitals Brisbane.
Dr Lewin completed his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery at The University of Queensland before obtaining his General Surgery fellowship at the Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital.
After this, he completed a further three years of subspecialty post fellowship training through the Australian & Aotearoa New Zealand Hepatic, Pancreatic & Biliary Association (AANZHPBA) in high volume tertiary centres including Box Hill Hospital in Victoria, Mater Hospital Brisbane, and the Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital, with a strong focus on robotic and laparoscopic HPB surgery.
Dr Lewin’s interest in clinical research focusing on minimally invasive HPB surgery has seen him publish and present internationally on techniques for complex liver surgery.
He is a founding member of the Australian & Aotearoa New Zealand Minimally Invasive Pancreatic Surgery (AANZMIPS) Collaborative, an organisation dedicated to fostering the sustainable development of this highly technical area of expertise. Dr Lewin is also a lecturer at The University of Queensland Medical School.
